West Virginia RN License Renewal CE Package.

In West Virginia, for maintaining an active license, registered nurses (RNs) are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education for license renewal. Specifically, for license renewal, RNs must complete:

  • 1 hour of best prescribing and drug diversion training if they prescribe, administer, or dispense controlled substances.
  • 2 hours of inquiring or inquiring about whether the patients are veterans or family members of veterans, and screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression, and grief, and prevention of suicide.

For initial licensure, RNs in West Virginia must complete:

  •  3 hours of best prescribing and drug diversion training if they prescribe, administer, or dispense controlled substances.

It’s important to note that the West Virginia Board of Nursing will not accept courses approved for less than 1.0 contact hour. Adhering to these continuing education requirements is crucial for the timely and accurate renewal or initial licensure of RNs in the state of West Virginia.
